Thomas Müller extends contract with Vancouver Whitecaps through the 2027 season
Thomas Müller has extended his contract with Vancouver Whitecaps FC through the MLS 2027 Sprint season and will continue as the club’s Designated Player. The striker, who joined the Whitecaps in August 2025 as a free agent, helped the team reach the 2025 MLS Cup final; this season Vancouver tops the Western Conference with 50 points and eight games to play.
As mlssoccer reports, the club announced on Tuesday that the deal runs through the Sprint 2027 season and confirmed Müller’s status as a Designated Player. Sporting director Axel Schuster cited his impact in improving the group’s winning mentality and the leadership he built within the club since his arrival.
Müller is among the most decorated German players in history, with 36 career trophies, including 13 Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues and two FIFA Club World Cups with Bayern Munich. In Bayern’s records he scored 250 goals and made 756 appearances, while for the German national team he recorded 45 goals and 41 assists in 131 matches; he was also part of the 2014 World Cup-winning squad and won the 2010 World Cup Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer.
Since arriving in Vancouver last summer, Müller has recorded 31 direct goal contributions (19 goals and 12 assists) in 45 matches across all competitions, and is considered the highest-profile signing in club history. The player has said he is enjoying the experience in Vancouver, feels good physically and is motivated to build further success with the team.
According to mlssoccer, the renewal comes as the Whitecaps aim to win trophies and strengthen their position as one of the league’s top teams.
