Todrick Hall’s “Midnight” begins Off-Broadway previews: first photos released after one-week delay

After a one-week delay that forced the cancellation of its first week of previews, Todrick Hall’s new musical Midnight has finally opened Off-Broadway. Previews began on September 25 at New York’s Daryl Roth Theatre, and Playbill has published the first photos from the production.

Hall, known to audiences as a choreographer and stage-and-screen performer, wrote, directed and choreographed the musical himself — and also stars in the lead role of Rail, while serving as the show’s lead producer.

The official opening night is set for October 15, with a gala celebration on September 27. Performances will run through November 8.

Midnight follows six Black and six white characters in the 19th-century American South, whose intertwined lives confront them with the worlds they have inherited and the prejudices they carry.

The cast includes Jeremy Beloate (The Voice) as Richard, Jimmy Brewer (Shucked) as Harry, Kennedy Caughell (Hell’s Kitchen) as Scarlet, Dwayne Clark (Shucked) as Horace, Sidney DuPont (Paradise Square) as Squeak, Ayana George (MJ The Musical) as Ethel, Autumn Hurlbert (Tammy Faye) as Charlotte, Kolbi Jordan (American Idol) as Happy, Bella Coppola (Smash) as Violet, Ciaran McCarthy (Kinky Boots) as Sylvester and Charlotte Odusanya (The Wiz) as Lily Rose.
