Tonnes of fish die in Lushnja, Armed Forces join cleanup of the reservoir
Armed Forces personnel joined a cleanup operation this Wednesday at the Kasharaj reservoir in Lushnja, following the environmental alarm created by the death of tonnes of fish.
The news was announced by Defence Minister Ermal Nufi, who said that 49 soldiers, 11 dump trucks and 3 dinghies have been deployed in the field for the management and full cleanup of the area.
“Lushnja — where Armed Forces personnel and vehicles are working together with municipal structures in the operation to manage the situation created at the Kasharaj reservoir.
In support of the Civil Emergencies of Lushnja Municipality, 49 troops, 11 dump trucks and 3 dinghies from the Land Force and the Armed Forces Support Command have been engaged in the reservoir cleanup operation,” Nufi wrote.
Meanwhile, the serious situation arose after Lushnja Municipality drained the reservoir to carry out reconstruction works on the outlet gate, which left behind only mud and caused the mass death of the fish.
