Tonnes of fish died as it dried out, disinfection of the Kasharaj reservoir begins
Tonnes of fish died as the reservoir dried out, and disinfection of the Kasharaj reservoir has now begun.
Three days after the deeply worrying situation created at the Kasharaj reservoir in Lushnja, disinfection of the area began this Thursday, 1 October.
The Ministry of Agriculture has taken measures to disinfect the area of the dead animals.
Meanwhile, yesterday, Army forces intervened, making it possible to clean the area, and worked on the ground with drainage board equipment.
The bags of dead fish will be buried at the former aviation field in Pluk, Lushnja, a site designated in advance by the authorities.
The situation arose after works began to strengthen the dam. In a 2024 report, the dams committee assessed that the dam of this reservoir was at risk of cracking, so according to specialists the intervention was necessary.
The Kasharaj reservoir covers an area of 100 hectares and was built in 1984–1985 to use its water for irrigation in the Lushnja area.
