Tragedy in Athens that killed three Albanians: investigators uncover the main lead behind the explosion

The investigation into the deadly explosion in Athens’ Plaka district has focused on the second floor of the three-story building, where an elderly couple lived. Six people lost their lives in the tragedy, including three Albanian nationals who were there on holiday.

Military experts and fire services are examining the internal natural-gas supply network, which was active only in that apartment. Authorities have ruled out the possibility of an explosion caused by propane canisters, while forensic and toxicology reports are expected to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

The tragedy has also sparked discussion about tightening safety measures and enforcing stricter protocols in short-term rental accommodation businesses such as Airbnb.
