Tragedy in Glyfada: Three Dead, Two Injured in Poseidonos Crash

Three people lost their lives and two others were injured, one seriously, in a tragic road accident in the early hours of Thursday morning on Poseidonos Boulevard, in the Glyfada area of Athens.

According to Greek police, the crash happened shortly before 02:00 at the intersection of Poseidonos Boulevard and Kalypsous Street, in the lane toward Athens. The car, carrying five people, veered off the road for still-unclear reasons and slammed violently into the concrete wall of a well-known hotel in the area, bringing it down.

The impact was so severe that the car was reduced to “a shapeless mass of metal,” while debris was scattered over a radius of at least 30 meters. Eight firefighters with special rescue equipment worked more than an hour to extract the people from the wreckage; the operation ended around 03:30.

Two of the victims have been identified, aged 26 and 23, while the third remains unidentified. The two injured, born in 2008, were taken to the Asklepieio hospital in Voula, where one is in critical condition. According to witnesses, the car was traveling at very high speed and the driver lost control; seconds before the crash, a girl waiting for a taxi stood where the car ended up but moved away in time.

Traffic police are investigating the exact causes and circumstances of the crash.
