Trump camp sends Tehran a counterproposal through Qatari mediators — Araghchi presents it to the Cabinet
US President Donald Trump’s camp has sent a counterproposal to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi through Qatari mediators, and Araghchi has presented it to the Iranian Cabinet, as EA WorldView reports in its Thursday live updates. The content of the US counterproposal has not been publicly disclosed.
The news comes after an intense exchange of proposals between the two sides to end the seven-month war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping. On Wednesday, Iranian officials confirmed they had received Washington’s official response to Tehran’s latest proposal, after Araghchi returned from New York, where indirect talks were held on the margins of the UN General Assembly.
According to USA Today, which cites a US official, the US has counter-offered sanctions relief and the release of frozen Iranian funds in exchange for concessions on Iran’s nuclear program. “There will be no deal if the nuclear issues are not addressed,” the official said. Trump himself denied these reports on social media, writing: “This is not true. I offered them nothing!”
Meanwhile, the Iranian side says the talks have stalled because Washington does not accept the framework of the June 14-point memorandum, which envisaged lifting the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, fully reopening Hormuz and raising at least $300 billion for Iran’s reconstruction. Araghchi has stressed that Iran will not back down from its conditions and that only a negotiated solution can get Washington out of the impasse.
