Trump Hosts Xi Jinping at the White House: The U.S. and China Have Made Extraordinary Strides on Key Issues

Xi Jinping arrived at the White House, where U.S. President Donald Trump greeted the Chinese leader with a handshake and a smile. Trump opened his remarks by saying that he and President Xi share a relationship based on “mutual respect”.

“The United States and China have made extraordinary strides on the issues our two countries face,” he said.

Trump added they are working toward a more balanced trade relationship, including new market access for American farmers.

According to him, both sides will also discuss urgent issues related to security, technology and super-intelligence.

“The decisions made today in these areas could drive peace and prosperity for decades and decades to come,” he said.

As Trump was nearing the end of his remarks, he mentioned that the U.S. Marines adopted the expression “gung-ho” from China, which, he said, means “cooperation”.

For his part, Xi, at the start of his statements, focused on the strategic relationship the two countries have recently built, something that had not been the case in previous years.
