Turkey’s National Security Council meets with no mention of Greece or the ‘Blue Homeland’ draft law
Turkey’s National Security Council held its regular meeting today under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as ProtoThema reports in an article published this evening. The Council’s final statement contains no reference to Greece.
Likewise, the document completely lacks any mention of the “Blue Homeland” draft law, which in recent weeks had fuelled debates about Ankara’s stance toward Athens. According to Turkish media, the draft law was not included on the agenda of the Security Council’s October meeting either.
The Council’s statement focuses almost entirely on developments in the Middle East, with references to Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq and Yemen.
The wording on the Israeli government is particularly harsh: Ankara accuses it of continuing the attacks in Gaza and Lebanon and of violating the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria, trying to hinder stability in the region, ProtoThema writes.
In the same line, the Council calls on the international community to take “concrete measures” against the Israeli government, while stressing Turkey’s determination to defend its security interests in the region.
