Two arrested in Tirana for arson, one had breached his security measure

Two people were arrested this Wednesday by Tirana Police, accused of the criminal offence of arson.

According to police reports, Elton Kranja, 49, was arrested on suspicion of setting fire to some waste in the area known as “Kombinat”. He had also breached a “house arrest” security measure imposed for theft and unlawful possession of bladed weapons, and was carrying a knife on him.

The other arrested man is Shefki Hima, suspected of setting a fire on a plot of land in his ownership in the village of Prush. As the flames spread, hillside areas of the village were damaged, and pine trees, wild vegetation and other trees were burned.

As a result of intensive investigative and operational work, carried out in implementation of the tasks set by the Director General of the State Police to prevent cases of arson and to identify and bring their perpetrators to criminal responsibility, the services of Police Commissariat No. 6 arrested the perpetrators of two such cases. Specifically, the following citizens were arrested:

– E. K., 49, on suspicion of setting fire to waste in “Garibaldi” square in the area known as “Kombinati”. The citizen attempted to flee as soon as he spotted the officers. A physical search found on the 49-year-old a cutting tool (knife), which was seized as material evidence, while checks showed he was under a “house arrest” security measure for theft and unlawful possession of bladed weapons;

– Sh. H., on suspicion of setting a fire on a plot of land in his ownership in the village of Prush; as the flames spread, hillside areas of the village were damaged and pine trees, wild vegetation and other trees were burned.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecution for further action.
