Tyler Perry returns to Netflix with the drama “Doing Life”: premieres today on the platform
Netflix debuted Tyler Perry’s new drama “Doing Life” today, October 2, 2026, as What’s on Netflix announces. The film was written, directed and produced by Perry himself, together with Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland, and marks his 15th exclusive project for the platform under his multi-year deal with Netflix.
According to Movie Vine, the story follows Anika (Naomi Baker), a single mother struggling to keep her family together, and Carousel (Jay Reeves), a reformed ex-prisoner who once saved her during a prison riot. Their unexpected bond becomes a story of redemption, hope and love against all odds.
In supporting roles appear Tamberla Perry as Cathy, Karen Obilom as Trina, Jasmine Sargent as Lisa, Lucky Johnson as Quinn and Danielle Moné Truitt as Denise, as Softonic writes. The film runs 108 minutes and is rated R.
According to Softonic, “Doing Life” follows a string of Perry successes on Netflix, including “Straw” and “Mea Culpa”, while the drama “Why Did I Get Married Again?” became the platform’s most-watched film globally in the second week of September 2026. Reviews of his projects have been mixed, but audiences have consistently welcomed them.
