UKMTO confirms supertanker strike in Hormuz: 2.5-million-barrel vessel hit by an unknown projectile
A supertanker carrying 2.5 million barrels of oil was hit by an unknown projectile and caught fire while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed, as Al Jazeera reports.

Confirmation from the British authority comes after Iranian media reported on Wednesday that the supertanker had been hit and engulfed in flames in the strait — an event also reported last night on 24-ore.com.
Hormuz remains the hottest point of the war: the U.S. blockade on Iranian oil continues, while Tehran and Yemen’s Houthis have repeatedly threatened commercial shipping in the strait and in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Iran did not load a single barrel of oil onto tankers throughout the month of September — an indication that the blockade is completely cutting off the regime’s main source of revenue.
