US Congressman Joe Wilson Urges EPP to Cut All Ties With Vučić’s SNS: “Corrupt Authoritarian Party”

US Congressman Joe Wilson has written to European People’s Party (EPP) president Manfred Weber, asking the EPP to formally revoke the associate-membership status of Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and to cut all other ties with it.

On X, Wilson wrote that “Vučić and his corrupt authoritarian party are against Western civilization and should have no connection with the EPP,” adding that Europe must confront “Vučić’s electoral manipulations” and demand free and fair elections in Serbia.

The letter says the SNS has long shown it is not committed to democratic competition and that it is essential the decision be made before the parliamentary elections of October 25, 2026, so the SNS cannot use the EPP’s good name for its own legitimacy. Wilson accuses the SNS of having repeatedly abused state resources and security services under Vučić to manipulate elections, citing the ODIHR assessment that the 2023 parliamentary elections were held in “unfair conditions” and that none of the recommendations have been implemented.

According to the letter, 96 percent of public broadcasting airtime goes to Vučić versus 4 percent for the opposition, and “secret surveillance software has been illegally used against students and the opposition”. Wilson compares the SNS to Vladimir Putin’s party “United Russia”, saying it is run kleptocratically, and cites the collapse of the Novi Sad railway station canopy (16 dead) as victims of Vučić’s corruption.

He also says Vučić has turned Serbia into a bastion of Chinese Communist Party influence in Europe, has integrated Chinese surveillance and military technology, while Serbia’s largest oil and gas company is owned by Russia, and that the SNS sent a delegation to the funeral of “terrorist Khamenei”. The student movement in Serbia, according to the letter, is trying to restore the rule of law that the SNS destroyed, as Nova.rs reports.
