Vagiannidis out for the Netherlands and Germany matches: Jovanovic calls up Tsapras
Bad news for the Greece national team ahead of two decisive Nations League matches: as bala24.gr reports, Giorgos Vagiannidis has been definitively ruled out of the meetings with the Netherlands and Germany, after failing to overcome the problem that had been troubling him.
The Sporting Lisbon right-back, according to bala24.gr, will not be available to coach Ivan Jovanovic for the last two League A fixtures of this break: against the Netherlands on October 1 (21:45) and against Germany on October 4 (21:45), both at the “Toumba” stadium in Thessaloniki.
His place in the squad has already been covered: Triantafyllos Tsapras joined the team on Monday evening (September 28), as Greek media report. The Panathinaikos right-back, together with Manolis Saliakas, are now the coach’s two options for the right side of defence. For Tsapras this is his first call-up to the senior national team, a special moment in his career.
Vagiannidis had come off with discomfort in the first half of Greece’s historic win over Germany in Augsburg, and the medical staff decided the risk was not worth taking.
As for preparations, the internationals return to training on Wednesday afternoon (September 30) at 19:30 at the “Toumba” stadium, after the day off Jovanovic gave them on Tuesday.
