Vetëvendosje announces new invitations for meetings on the President; Rrustemi: “Our approach to a consensual name does not change”
With the final deadline for electing Kosovo’s new President approaching, the Vetëvendosje Movement is announcing an intensification of meetings with other political parties, stressing that the few days left must be used to find a consensual name, before the country enters a new electoral cycle.
Vetëvendosje MP Adnan Rrustemi told Ekonomia Online that his party does not rule out stepping up the pace of meetings in the coming days, calling for political will from all political forces. “We have continuously invited for meetings and cooperation… there will be invitations for meetings, meetings are indispensable, we must intensify them because we have very few days at our disposal,” he said.
Rrustemi recalled the earlier agreement with the LDK on a consensual name, which failed after six MPs of that party lined up against it. Asked whether Vetëvendosje would propose a consensual rather than a party name, he replied that this has always been his party’s approach — and that it does not change.
The Vetëvendosje MP claimed that the PDK and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo refuse cooperation, while warning that failure to elect the President and going to new elections would harm the country, also linking this to issues related to the Special Court in The Hague. “We would only damage the budget, damage Kosovo’s interests and lose precious time,” he said.
Rrustemi added that the full decision of the Constitutional Court has not yet been published and that no concrete name has been discussed so far. Recall that the Constitutional Court has ruled that the new President must be elected no later than October 6, with the 60-day deadline having started on August 8.
