VLEN after the Hague verdict: The KLA waged a just and liberation war; DUI is exploiting it politically
SKOPJE, September 27 – The VLEN coalition has reacted to the verdict of the Hague Specialized Chambers against the former leadership of the Kosovo Liberation Army – Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, as reported by the portal 48chasa, expressing disappointment with the Special Court’s decision.
VLEN stresses that the ruling does not change its position one bit: the KLA’s war was, as the coalition puts it, a “just and liberation war” against the regime of Slobodan Milošević.
At the same time, VLEN sharply criticizes DUI and its leader Ali Ahmeti, accusing them of using the Hague verdict and the announced march for political purposes. “The KLA is not DUI’s property and cannot be used as an alibi to wash away sins,” the coalition’s reaction reads, as quoted by 48chasa.
VLEN demands that DUI and Ahmeti answer several key questions: what deal was offered in exchange for supporting the establishment of the Specialized Chambers; what the file linked to Ahmeti’s testimony contains; why Ahmeti described his role before the Specialized Chambers differently; and whether his testimony played any role in the indictment against the former KLA leadership.
According to VLEN, instead of political protests, the public should get answers to these questions.
