Vučić in Bor: expects over 80% turnout in the October 25 elections — “We will not allow the loss of the right to vote”
Aleksandar Vučić, the head of the “United Serbia” (Ujedinjena Srbija) electoral list, addressed the citizens of Bor in eastern Serbia on Monday, as the Serbian state news agency Tanjug reports. In his address, Vučić said he expects a turnout of over 80% in the snap parliamentary elections of October 25, while claiming at the same time that “some individuals don’t want elderly family members to go to the polls, taking away their ID cards”.
According to the regionalnevesti.rs portal, which cites Tanjug, the Bor speech comes as part of Vučić’s tour on Monday of the Braničevo and Bor districts. He stressed that citizens must decide for themselves, “without pressure from abroad”, who will govern Serbia, criticized the opposition for its inability to face different opinions, described the race as uncertain and underlined the need to preserve stability and society’s values.
Vučić also said his list plans no election manipulation and that he is ready to defend the voters’ will: “We will not allow the loss of the right to vote.”
Earlier in the day, in the village of Luka near Bor, according to Niš TV’s report, he promised residents the completion of the Luka–Donja Bela Reka road and the continuation of the Bor–Žagubica road, as well as the renovation of Bor’s hospital — including all eight operating rooms, the angio unit, X-ray and scanners. He reiterated the idea that a future government should have only 12 ministers, criticized former National Bank governor Dejan Šoškić, claiming his economic policy would jeopardize the stability of the dinar, and defended his presidential resignation as constitutional. “For me the will of the people is always the most important — if they win, I will congratulate them on election night,” he said, setting his list’s target at over 50% of the votes.
Recall that Vučić formally handed over presidential duties to Ana Brnabić on Monday morning, and now runs as an ordinary citizen at the head of the list for the October 25 elections.
