Warriors presentation convinces Steph Curry to accept historic contract extension
The Golden State Warriors offered Stephen Curry several different scenarios for a new contract, outlining the various possible paths to keep the team competitive while securing their star for the renewal. The club put together a detailed presentation to convince the 12-time All-Star to sign a two-year deal considered historic in its scale.
As Bleacher Report reports, Curry has accepted a two-year extension worth $116 million. In the talks, Golden State presented several alternatives, including the option to take slightly less than the maximum salary, which would give management more room under the salary cap to strengthen the roster around him. For the 2026-27 season Curry is set to earn $62.6 million, while the new deal averages around $58 million a year.
The team faces major contract-management decisions: Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Brandin Podziemski together hold a cap hold of around $124 million for the 2027-28 season, and how those contracts are handled will affect how much money is available next summer. At the same time, several big names could be on the market then, with Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Karl-Anthony Towns, Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert holding player options; Michael Porter Jr., Tyler Herro and RJ Barrett are expected to be unrestricted free agents.
Since winning the 2022 NBA Finals, Golden State has missed the playoffs twice and failed to advance past the second round in the two seasons it qualified, while Curry, at 38, continues to play at a high level though no longer at his career peak. The organization appears determined to stay competitive and give Curry as strong a supporting roster as possible, according to Bleacher Report.
