WASHINGTON – Xi on three-day state visit to the U.S.

WASHINGTON, September 23 /ATSH-DPA/ — Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Washington today for a three-day state visit at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Topics likely to be discussed during the visit include the tariff and trade dispute between the two countries, as well as security issues related to artificial intelligence and global conflicts such as the war in Iran and Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Trump plans to present an extensive program through Friday, including a military parade, a state banquet attended by top technology executives, and a joint tea reception.

For Xi, this is his first trip to the U.S. since 2023, when he traveled to California for the APEC economic summit and met with Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden.

Trump invited Xi to the White House during his visit to Beijing in mid-May.

The Greenland deal concluded yesterday between the U.S., Denmark and the Arctic island could cast a diplomatic shadow over the summit between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies.

Trump justified the move on grounds of U.S. security interests and the fact that U.S. adversaries, such as China and Russia, wanted to bring the island under their control — and that Denmark was powerless to prevent it.
