The conviction of the four former KLA leaders by the Special Court in The Hague was also discussed at the Conference of Chairpersons in Albania’s Parliament.

The four former KLA leaders — Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi — were sentenced to a total of 81 years in prison by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.

Gazment Bardhi, head of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, called on Albania’s Parliament to take a joint stance on the Hague decision.

Bardhi said the Foreign Policy Committee had earlier discussed a joint draft declaration, proposing that the matter also be discussed at the Conference of Chairpersons.

“We may be deeply divided on domestic issues, but there is no reason to be divided on the Kosovo issue. I propose we discuss this stance here and that you, Mr. Speaker, on behalf of Parliament, take an official and joint stance,” Bardhi said.

According to him, so far there has been no official stance from the government or the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs on the Special Court’s decision.

“There has been no official stance from the government, no official stance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I don’t know why! But that does not prevent us from having a joint stance of all political forces on the Kosovo issue,” he said.

Bardhi emphasized that the Kosovo issue must be treated outside the divisions of Albanian domestic politics, adding: “Kosovo does not need us to play politics.”

Yesterday, after the verdict was announced, Bardhi had called it “unbelievable” and “unacceptable,” describing it as a grave day for the Albanian nation.
