Wendt–Hoxha meeting, US Embassy: Over 100 years of US–Albania partnership

The United States Ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, held a meeting with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, in the framework of the close relations and the historic partnership between the two countries.

The news was announced by the US Embassy in Tirana through a post on social media, where the meeting was described as an opportunity to appreciate the strong ties that have characterised Albanian–American relations for more than a century, as well as to discuss further cooperation in fields of common interest.

In its reaction, the embassy stressed that the partnership between Albania and the United States rests on a long history of friendship and cooperation.

“A historic partnership with a shared vision for the future. Ambassador Eric Wendt met with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, to appreciate a bond of over 100 years,” the US Embassy announcement states.

The embassy further noted that relations between the two countries have strong historical roots, recalling the support that US President Woodrow Wilson gave Albania at decisive moments for preserving its independence and territorial integrity.

“From President Wilson’s support for an independent Albania, to our cooperation today as NATO allies, we continue to expand cooperation in trade, energy security and people-to-people ties, strengthening peace and stability across the Western Balkans,” the statement stresses.

According to the US Embassy, relations between Tirana and Washington continue to consolidate through cooperation in strategic sectors, including security, defence, the economy and energy, while the two countries’ role as NATO allies remains an important pillar of the bilateral partnership.
