White Sox Shortstop Colson Montgomery Ties MLB Single-Season Strikeout Record
Colson Montgomery, the Chicago White Sox shortstop, tied the record for most strikeouts in an MLB season after striking out during his second at-bat in Thursday’s game against the Kansas City Royals. He matched the mark of 223 strikeouts, a record previously held by Mark Reynolds.
According to Bleacher Report, Montgomery entered that game with a .202 batting average, but has finished the season with 31 home runs and 87 RBIs. A recent slump has put him in a difficult position as far as individual statistics go.
The White Sox will close the regular season with a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies, and Montgomery will need better showings in those games to avoid setting an unwanted record, as Bleacher Report notes.
