Why do men never find the things they are looking for?

– Why does one person fail to notice an object that is right in front of them, while another spots it without difficulty? Some studies have linked this to differences between men and women in the way visual information is processed.

Scientific studies show that there are some measurable differences, but the picture is more complicated than the idea that women simply have a wider peripheral view.

A study published in the scientific journal “British Journal of Psychology” and carried out by researchers at the Department of Psychology of London Metropolitan University, Geoff Sanders, Kamila Sinclair and Tom Walsh, examined how men and women process information in near and far space.

In three experiments, the researchers found that women performed better on some tasks relating to near space, while men had better results on tasks relating to far space.

The first experiment involved 128 people, who assessed the movement of objects at different distances.

In the other two experiments, with 40 and 60 participants respectively, puzzle tasks and exercises requiring participants to determine the position of objects were used.

The results again showed a difference according to gender and distance: women were more accurate or faster on some near-space tasks, while men were better on far-space ones.

Another study, carried out with 48 participants, 24 women and 24 men, examined how the midpoint of lines placed at different distances was determined.

This experiment also found a similar tendency, with women performing better in near space and men in far space.

However, when participants used a stick instead of a laser pointer, the difference did not appear in the same way.

This suggested that the way the brain processes space can also be influenced by the use of tools.

Other studies have examined different aspects of vision.

One study analysed sensitivity to detail and movement in people with normal vision.

In that group of participants, men showed greater sensitivity to some fine details and fast-moving stimuli.

These results show that the differences observed are not only related to the field of vision, but also to the way the brain processes visual information.

These findings have also been used to support the so-called “hunter-gatherer hypothesis”.

According to this hypothesis, the differences may have been shaped during evolution, as men were more engaged in hunting, which required assessing objects at a distance, while women were more engaged in gathering food, which required greater attention to near space.

However, this remains an evolutionary hypothesis and not a directly proven fact.

Science has found some statistical differences in the way men and women process visual information, especially in tasks relating to near and far space, detail and movement. /
