Woody Allen unveils cast of new film that starts shooting in Madrid on October 5

Woody Allen has unveiled the cast of his new film, which starts shooting on October 5 in Madrid, as Deadline reports. The international cast is led by Marton Csokas (‘The Equalizer’, ‘The Lord of the Rings’), Jemima Kirke (‘Girls’, ‘Sex Education’), Jakob Oftebro (‘Hamilton’, ‘Kon-Tiki’), Peter Vives (‘The Time in Between’, ‘Velvet’) and Alexi Wasser (‘Messy’, ‘Girls’), while character details have not yet been revealed.

WestEnd Films has taken on worldwide sales of the film and will present it to international buyers at the American Film Market. WestEnd also handled Allen’s last film, ‘Coup de Chance’, which screened in Venice and sold in more than 30 countries. The project’s working title will contain the word ‘Madrid’, while the film is expected to be the 51st contemporary comedy in the 90-year-old director’s career.

Filming will take place in Madrid and its surroundings, including Aranjuez, and will be carried out in English. The first details were presented today, October 1, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, one of the filming locations. It is the third time Allen has filmed in Spain, after ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ (2008) and ‘Rifkin’s Festival’ (2020). The producers are Madrid’s Wanda Visión, Allen’s Gravier Productions and 3SIX9 Studios, while the City of Madrid is supporting the project with an institutional sponsorship of 1.5 million euros.

‘I will be very happy to return to Spain. This is the third time I am filming there and the first opportunity to make a film in Madrid, a city I have always loved,’ said Allen, who turns 91 on November 30. Maya Amsellem, managing director of WestEnd Films, said that after the strong international response to ‘Coup de Chance’, the company is excited to bring the new film to the market: ‘It brings together an international cast in Madrid and we cannot wait to present it to buyers at the AFM.’
