Ridley Scott’s “Treasure Island” gets a premiere date: Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, in cinemas on November 11, 2027

Sony Pictures has officially set the release date for “Treasure Island,” Ridley Scott’s new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel: the film will open in cinemas on November 11, 2027, as The Wrap reports. The announcement was part of a broader move by the studio, which also reset the dates for “24 Jump Street,” “The Surgeon” with Michelle Yeoh and “Helldivers.”

The most surprising detail comes from Sony’s own announcement: Hugh Jackman will not play Long John Silver, as had been speculated when the project was announced in June, but the other legendary pirate — Blackbeard, Collider writes. This is the film’s first clear departure from the 1883 novel, in which Jackman had been widely expected as Silver.

The cast has been rounded out with two other big names: Hugh Grant and Owen Cooper, the young star of the series “Adolescence.” The screenplay was written by Jack Thorne (the author of “Adolescence” and “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”), while Scott produces the film together with Michael Pruss through his company Scott Free.

According to the official synopsis, the story follows a boy who discovers a hidden treasure map and sets off on a dangerous journey on the high seas — a battle of wits and swords against a charismatic but treacherous pirate. It is the most ambitious adaptation of “Treasure Island” in decades, with an Oscar-winning director behind the camera and one of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the role of the villain.

Sony’s move also set other parts of the 2027–2028 calendar: the comedy “24 Jump Street” with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill (directed by Rodney Rothman) will open on December 10, 2027; Michelle Yeoh’s “The Surgeon” on April 2, 2027; “Narcs” with Mason Thames on August 20, 2027; Justin Lin’s “Helldivers” with Alan Ritchson is pushed back to June 9, 2028; while Takashi Yamazaki’s “Grandgear” (a Bad Robot production with giant robots) was moved earlier, to January 14, 2028.
