Xolo Maridueña Promises a Fiery Return as Blue Beetle in ‘Man of Tomorrow’

Xolo Maridueña gave an interview to ScreenRant, published on September 24, 2026, in which he offered the first taste of his return as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle in DC’s new cinematic universe. The actor confirmed that the character will be seen in the upcoming film “Man of Tomorrow.”

Speaking about the return, Maridueña said: “I feel incredibly honored that what we created outside of what is now the DCU has been embraced by James Gunn and the rest of the people at DC. And all I can say is that we’re coming back with fire. I can’t wait.”

The context makes this return even more significant: the original Blue Beetle film (2023) was greenlit and shot before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, so the character’s survival in the new universe was far from guaranteed. Variety first reported in July that Blue Beetle would return in “Man of Tomorrow.” Maridueña had earlier told Variety (September 1, 2026) that he was in Japan with friends when Gunn personally called him to bring the character into the new universe — a moment he described as deeply humbling.

“Man of Tomorrow” arrives on July 9, 2027 and serves as a quasi-sequel to “Superman.” The film forces David Corenswet’s Clark Kent to team up with his enemy Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) against a far greater threat: Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). The cast also includes Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Adria Arjona as Maxima.

Meanwhile, Gunn has also confirmed that an animated Blue Beetle series is still in development, according to ComingSoon.net.
