Yemen’s foreign minister meets U.S. chargé d’affaires: focus on navigation security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb

Yemen’s foreign minister and the chargé d’affaires of the U.S. embassy in Yemen met to discuss the latest developments in the fighting between Saudi-backed government forces and the Houthis, as Al Jazeera reports, citing Yemen’s Foreign Ministry.

The two also discussed maritime navigation security in the Red Sea and at Bab al-Mandeb, following the Houthis’ dramatic advances in western Yemen — an area where the group has strengthened its control over key sea routes.

Yemen’s Foreign Ministry said it warned “of the danger of the militias using Iranian-made missiles that threaten the safety of civil aviation and international air routes”, and called for “action to implement the arms embargo imposed on the militias and to stop the flow of Iranian weapons and expertise to them”.
