Yemen’s internationally recognized government holds cabinet meeting on general mobilization — a national call to arms against the Houthis
Yemen’s internationally recognized government held a cabinet meeting to put into effect the approval of the general mobilization declaration, as Al Jazeera reports, citing Yemen’s Foreign Ministry.
Yemen’s parliament approved the general mobilization declaration announced in a speech by Rashad al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council. According to the ministry, the cabinet approved a series of executive measures to strengthen state institutions, with the aim of implementing government directives related to general mobilization.
In his speech, al-Alimi made a national call to arms, asking citizens to “contribute in every possible way”, and offered amnesty to defecting Houthi fighters — an effort to weaken the ranks of the Iranian-backed group.
The mobilization comes amid escalating fighting in western Yemen, where the Houthis have made dramatic advances along the Red Sea coast, while the Saudi-led coalition has intensified airstrikes.
