Zefyri: Phone-Scam Network Posing as Police Dismantled — 8 Arrested, Over €700,000 in Damages
Greek police raided a “call center” in Zefyri. The network’s members posed as employees of DEDDIE, telecom and energy companies — and even as police officers, using fake siren sounds — to defraud victims.
Greek police raided a “call center” in Zefyri and dismantled an organized phone-scam network, arresting 8 people, including the criminal group’s two leaders. The operation followed a long investigation into the gang’s activity, which had turned an office on the outskirts of Athens into a large-scale fraud hub.
According to police, the network’s members posed as employees of DEDDIE, the electricity distribution network operator, as well as telecom and energy companies, as Skai reports. In other cases, they claimed to be police officers — even using fake siren sounds in the background — to convince victims the call was official and urgent.
Their method was simple but effective: under the pressure of a fake emergency situation, victims were persuaded to hand over cash and valuables, or to take actions that sent money directly to the scammers. Investigators say the network had been operating at least since June 2026 and, during that period, profited sums exceeding €700,000.
During the operation, police seized mobile phones, notebooks and documents which, according to authorities, prove the group’s criminal activity. All eight arrestees were brought before the prosecutor and then referred to the investigating judge, while the investigation continues to identify victims and other possible accomplices.
