14-day-old baby killed in Houthi attack in Taiz amid fierce clashes
A 14-day-old baby was killed in Taiz, Yemen, in an attack by the Houthis against residential areas in the Dhubab district, at a time when fierce fighting continues in the coastal city, as reported on October 4 by Al Jazeera, citing government sources.
According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Taiz, a shell struck a residential area in Dhubab, killing the baby. Residents of the area are calling for help and appealing for evacuation, as intermittent artillery exchanges continue between Houthi forces and pro-government forces.
The incident comes at a time when clashes between the Houthis and the army of Yemen’s internationally recognised government have sharply escalated: rocket and drone attacks have targeted Taiz and the western coast, causing dozens of deaths and injuries.
The clashes continued on Sunday both in the western part of Taiz and along the Red Sea coast, where government forces took control of the strategic town of Hays and advanced southwards along the coastal road towards the port of Hodeidah, which has been controlled by the Houthis since 2014.
