Trump says talks with Iran could resume “in the next two days”
U.S. President Donald Trump told BBC News that talks with Iran to secure a permanent end to the ongoing war could resume in the next two days. He made his remarks to the British broadcaster in an interview published on October 4.
The U.S. president said negotiations to end the war with Iran could restart soon, after Iranian officials boycotted a meeting with their U.S. counterparts in Pakistan over the weekend, according to the BBC. Last week Trump ordered the U.S. military to impose a naval blockade of Iranian ports.
‘We might be talking in the next two days,’ Trump said, noting that the consequences of Iran’s decision to kill the three American hostages held there would be included in the negotiations. He said the blockade of Iranian ports was going ‘beautifully’, while the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that ‘so far, no ships have breached the blockade of Iranian ports.’
Last month the U.S. president announced he had ordered the start of a naval blockade of Iranian ports after Iran rejected a U.S. proposal for a draft agreement to end the war. Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator, said on Sunday that the region was at a critical moment and called on all sides to draw on diplomacy.
