“Albania needs a new Constitution”, Shehi: A referendum is needed, but neither side wants it!

Dashamir Shehi, leader of the LZHK, declared that “Albania needs a new Constitution, to create new balances”.

“I have been saying for years that Albania needs a new Constitution, to create new balances, to fulfill some rights that were never implemented. For this we also need a referendum, but we still haven’t made the referendum law because neither side likes this. Because a referendum could raise things that Albanian governments don’t like. Because a referendum, in a way, limits the arbitrariness of governments. That’s why they don’t want it. I say the time has come to repair some of these elements because they are not taboo. But here nobody wants to change anything and I fear that when the next elections come, we’ll enter them with this same law,” Shehi said in the “A2” studio.

“I had hope and I still have that perhaps this new justice will continue to close some of these issues, so that trust in the popular image is regained, but I have always said that the rest of justice is far behind,” the former MP added.
