Albania presents ‘Digital Mirror’ at the UN – Rama: ‘It is not an arbiter of opinion, but protection against lies’
Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, focused on the challenges of artificial intelligence and the role his country is taking in this global process. He presented a project called the “Digital Mirror”, an AI-powered mechanism designed to increase transparency and protect society from information manipulation.
Rama described the project as an instrument that will not dictate citizens’ thinking, but will help verify information and detect coordinated manipulation structures.
“This is why Albania, on its microscopic scale against this gigantic challenge, is building an AI-powered digital mirror. The mirror will identify in real time, will test claims against authorized information, will detect coordinated structures — not only what is seen, but also how and why it reached them. It will not tell citizens what to think; truth cannot be decreed by any government, but it must be data-backed, drawn from the right sources, tested, defended openly. Our mirror does not pretend to become an arbiter of opinion, but aims to become a transparency infrastructure. It does not seek to create a ministry of truth, but to protect society against an industry of lies.”
The prime minister stressed that Albania does not see the initiative as an isolated project, but as part of a global architecture that must guarantee a safer and fairer information space for all.
