AMC, the world’s largest cinema chain, launches debt refinancing: $2 billion in bonds and new loans
AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AMC), the world’s largest cinema chain with around 860 cinemas and 9,600 screens worldwide, announced today that it has launched a $2.0 billion private offering of first lien notes maturing in 2031.
Alongside the notes, the company has launched the syndication of a new $850 million first lien term loan facility, and has signed a commitment letter with Deutsche Bank AG New York Branch for a second $1.12 billion term loan facility (second lien term loan facility).
All the transactions are aimed at refinancing the company’s existing debt. The new notes and loans will be guaranteed by AMC subsidiaries, including Muvico, LLC and Odeon Cinemas Group, according to the company’s official announcement.
The announcement comes in a strong year for the cinema industry, after the huge success of horror films such as ‘Resident Evil,’ which have brought audiences back to theaters in record numbers. The transactions are subject to market conditions.
