Diaspora sent nearly €700 million to Kosovo in 6 months — up 5.7 percent

Kosovar diaspora remittances to the country reached €692 million in the first half of 2026, according to data from the Central Bank of Kosovo, marking a 5.7 percent increase compared to the same period of 2025. The figures were made public by the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, according to KosovaPress reporting.

Germany remains the main source of remittances, with 38.2 percent of the total, followed by Switzerland with 20.4 percent and the United States of America with 6.4 percent, confirming once again the central role of the Albanian community in Europe and across the Atlantic.

According to official statistics, from 2008 to the end of 2025 the diaspora has sent a total of €15.2 billion to Kosovo, while over the last decade remittances have represented between 12 and 14 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product — a vital pillar of the Kosovar economy.

Economic experts assess that the steady growth of remittances reflects the diaspora’s strong connection to the homeland and its decisive contribution to supporting families, consumption, and Kosovo’s financial stability.
