“I Have Proof” premieres today at Fantastic Fest: the horror film shot entirely on VHS tapes, starring Larsen Deane

“I Have Proof” is the new psychological thriller written and directed by James Cullen Bressack, a well-known name in the horror genre, returning to audiences with a project that defies everything we expect from a modern film. Its unique feature: it was shot ENTIRELY on old VHS-C tapes, with no standard digital effects, to achieve an authentic “lo-fi” aesthetic that cannot be imitated on a computer. To pull this off, the production bought around 30 blank or used tapes on eBay, which were fully re-recorded.

According to the official synopsis: “Alex has proof. He needs you to see it. I HAVE PROOF is a psychological descent where reality is never what it seems.” The trailer released in recent weeks shows a girl being followed through a series of sped-up clips, deepening the mystery of the story behind this enigmatic evidence.

The cast includes Larsen Deane as Alex (known from “Ford v Ferrari”), Lilly Van der Meer as Mary (known from the series “Neighbours”), Augie Duke as Bex (known from “Moon Garden”), as well as B.J. Hendricks, Kelly Lynn Reiter and David Josh Lawrence.

Director Bressack told The Hollywood Reporter that with this film he marks his return to “raw, stripped-down” horror. The inspiration for this comeback came from a simple comment on Letterboxd, where a viewer asked him to return to his “grunge” films. “We’re leaning fully into analog to create something AI couldn’t replicate,” he said, turning the VHS tape into a manifesto against the era of perfect digital images.

The US world premiere of “I Have Proof” takes place TODAY, September 21, 2026, at Fantastic Fest — the prestigious genre film festival held in Austin, Texas, from September 17 to 24. Expectations are high to see how audiences will receive this bold analog experiment in a digital age.
