Another White House official leaves DOJ probe into Trump’s ‘adversaries’: Kurt Olsen resigns
Attorney Kurt Olsen, the former White House election-security official who joined the U.S. Department of Justice this spring, has resigned from the investigation led by the federal prosecution in Florida, as Reuters reports.
Two sources familiar with the matter told the news agency that Olsen has left the probe, while a third source added that he remains employed at the Department of Justice. It is the second departure from this investigation in a matter of weeks: DOJ official Joseph diGenova, who had overseen the probe, resigned just over two weeks earlier after clashing with the Department of Justice leadership.
According to a source who spoke with Reuters, Olsen grew disillusioned with the state of the investigation following diGenova’s resignation.
The probe aims to prove President Donald Trump’s claim that he was the victim of a criminal conspiracy by former federal law enforcement and intelligence officials. It examines both the U.S. intelligence assessment that Russia tried to help Trump’s campaign in 2016 and the later investigation into classified documents kept at the Mar-a-Lago residence after Trump’s first term.
According to court documents, Olsen had led this month a call with lawyers for former CIA director John Brennan, who has been informed he is a target of the investigation.
As a private attorney, Olsen had pushed Trump’s unproven claims of election fraud in 2020. He later served as White House election-security official, where he pursued the debunked claims that voting machines had been manipulated against Trump.
