‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ beats everything at the box office: $86 million on its return weekend, now closing in on ‘Avatar’s’ record
A seven-year-old film won the world’s cinema weekend. As High On Films reports, citing Screen Daily, the theatrical return of “Avengers: Endgame” under the title “Avengers: Endgame Encore” grossed around $86 million worldwide over the September 25–27 weekend — $26 million in North America and $60 million in international markets.
The success comes despite the film’s age: China was the biggest international market with $13.5 million, followed by the United Kingdom and Ireland with $5.4 million. The “Encore” version includes four additional end scenes and runs 187 minutes (up from 181 in the original), while premium formats accounted for 67% of the North American gross — with IMAX contributing about $13.7 million.
Thanks to the return, “Endgame’s” worldwide total now stands at about $2.885 billion, leaving it only around $39 million behind James Cameron’s “Avatar” in the all-time rankings. The new version also includes exclusive footage from “Avengers: Doomsday,” due out in December, as Disney has announced.
Behind “Endgame” came Zach Cregger’s “Resident Evil” with $50.3 million ($196.4 million total, on course to pass $200 million), the survival drama “Heart of the Beast” with Brad Pitt and director David Ayer, which opened with $50.1 million, A24’s drama “Primetime” with Robert Pattinson at about $20 million, and DreamWorks’ animation “Forgotten Island” with $18.4 million. Meanwhile Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” added $17.5 million and passed $1.7 billion globally, while Universal became the first studio to pass $5 billion for 2026.
