‘This is abuse, not entertainment!’ — Former DP lawmaker Nebiaj: We are a sexually frustrated people, we have vulgar men

Former lawmaker and presenter Oriela Nebiaj has reacted harshly following the publication of several videos on social media.

Nebiaj’s reaction:

“That we are a sexually frustrated people is beyond discussion! Every time a ‘scandal’ with intimate videos comes out, our thirst to see them makes our blood boil.

In fact, the scandal is not people’s intimate lives. The scandal is the violation of their privacy and the way we receive, seek out and distribute those images. Disgusting.

Women who may have been filmed in intimacy without their desire. Vulgar men, the scum of society, who stage such scenarios.

There must be clear criminal responsibility for anyone who is proven to film someone’s intimacy without his consent and for anyone who distributes those images without consent. This is abuse, not entertainment.

Great delight, hysteria on phones, while the videos pass from one person to another. It still surprises us that people have intimate lives.

Issues come up that raise questions about the abuse of power, the state and our taxes, and yet we spend our attention on pink stories: who was seeing whom, who had a lover.

And, as always, the bill of shame goes to the woman first. The man may be part of the same story, but she becomes the headline, the object of judgement and the target of comments.

This is our double-standard morality: when we should demand accountability, we become spectators; when we should respect privacy, we become prosecutors.

What ordinary perversity. Prison for whoever distributed the videos, both first-hand and second-hand.”
