Balla on Vlora Hyseni’s arrest: the SP is no one’s defense lawyer

The head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, has commented on the arrest of former SHISH chief Vlora Hyseni, who is under investigation by SPAK.

Speaking from the Parliament’s chairmanship, Balla said he would not comment on the content of SPAK’s file, stressing that anyone subjected to a measure restricting their freedom should challenge it in court.

“I am among those who do not comment on SPAK files; I have not commented even on files where I myself brought the accusation, the case of Sali Berisha, and I have never commented on the content of any file. By court decision, we are now barred from commenting on fragments of conversations. There are two standards that this parliamentary group — the majority — has set.

“We do not go into the merits of files, we do not comment on the content of files, and every official must contest any restriction of freedom, of all forms, in court. The SP is no one’s defense lawyer.

“In the case of persons with a parliamentary mandate, the Parliament of Albania, through the right granted to it by the sovereign, has exercised this right, and I want to reiterate that Albania, as far as the part related to restrictions of freedom before a court decision is concerned, must put an end to this practice.
