Berisha: Albania Resembles a Patient in Emergency Care, Renewal of the DP Is Vital

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has declared that Albania is in a critical situation, comparing the country to a patient in the emergency room in need of immediate intervention. According to him, the renewal of the Democratic Party is vital and decisive for the renewal of Albania.

Speaking from Elbasan, Berisha stressed that over 600,000 pensioners live on partial pensions, which “are absolutely not enough even for two weeks of food”, not to mention the help of family members.

He also cited recent data, according to which raising a child in the first year requires 66% of a salary, while rents have reached the level of the average wage, making buying or renting apartments unattainable for most citizens.

“All these factors push our citizens to leave, leave, leave,” Berisha said. He underlined that Albania is a country with “fabulous all-round wealth”, but this wealth “has turned into a curse for the Albanian citizen” and “into a paradise for insatiable government officials and thieves”, who, according to him, hate the citizen in the same way as those who oppressed Albanians for 46 years.

Berisha listed serious problems in healthcare and education, stressing that “the sirens of the need for the re-founding of Albania are sounding in all four corners of the country”.

Addressing the members and supporters of the opposition, he praised their resistance: “You have extraordinary merit, because in the most difficult conditions you stood as opposition members… You stood undefeated despite violence, terror, imprisonments, blackmail and pressure.” According to him, without this resistance, “this regime would not be dismantled today”.

Berisha stressed that the opposition’s victory is a “necessity” to complete “the last kilometer toward victory”. “Democrats, the opposition people await victory. Albania impatiently awaits the opposition’s victory. And this is a great responsibility toward the country,” he concluded.
