Brnabić appeals to the European Parliament over FDU students’ video: “This is not democracy, this is anti-democracy”

Ana Brnabić, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia and deputy president of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), has addressed the European Parliament, its political groups, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos and the head of the EU mission in Belgrade, Andreas von Beckerath, via the social network X, demanding a reaction to the political video published on the account of the blockading students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU).

Brnabić shared the video on her profile and wrote: “Dear European partners, I invite you to watch this video and say clearly whether these are the values that reflect democracy and free elections.” According to her, the video calls for voting for the Student List in the October 25 elections, promising that they will “take justice into their own hands,” arrest and punish in an inhumane manner anyone who thinks differently. The final frame of the video, showing a bar of soap in a prison cell, is according to Brnabić a direct threat against anyone with different political views — in this case against President Aleksandar Vučić, implying he would be raped in prison. “This is not democracy. This is anti-democracy,” she concluded.

SNS president Miloš Vučević had also reacted to the video earlier, saying he was “horrified” by the “terrible video published by the blockaders,” which according to him aims at the dehumanization of Vučić. The black-and-white video, titled “Srbija ga nije htela” (“Serbia did not want him”), features Vučić and was distributed by the accounts of the blockading FDU students.

The reactions come ahead of the early parliamentary elections to be held on October 25, in which the SNS list “Ujedinjena Srbija” (United Serbia) is headed by President Aleksandar Vučić.
