Brooklyn Museum opens ‘Art of Manga’ exhibition: 600+ original drawings from the creators of One Piece, JoJo’s and Ranma ½ — a first of its kind in America
The Brooklyn Museum in New York has announced that on October 3, 2026 it will open the exhibition “Art of Manga” — the first large-scale exhibition on the American continent to explore manga as an art form, highlighting iconic Japanese art and its global influence. The exhibition will remain open until January 31, 2027, as the Brooklyn Museum announces.
The exhibition presents over 600 original drawings by eight highly influential mangaka: Araki Hirohiko, author of “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure”; Oda Eiichiro, author of “ONE PIECE”, one of the best-selling series in history; Takahashi Rumiko, a bestseller for more than 48 years, known for “Ranma 1/2” and “InuYasha”; as well as Tagame Gengoroh, Taniguchi Jirō, Yamazaki Mari, Yamashita Kazumi and Yoshinaga Fumi.
The exhibition also brings foundational works by Chiba Tetsuya and Akatsuka Fujio, known as the “King of gag manga”, alongside drawings by Itō Junji. A special section is devoted to the legacy of Shueisha’s manga art, with art prints of “ONE PIECE”, “Rose of Versailles” and “BLEACH”.
“Art of Manga” is organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, with curator Nicole Coolidge Rousmaniere, while the Brooklyn presentation is organized by Joan Cummins and Pauline Vermare.
The museum also offers a “Manga Fan Pass” for $75, which includes unlimited admission throughout the exhibition period, while visitors are encouraged to wear cosplay.
