BTS’s RM co-curates at SFMOMA: his personal collection opens in San Francisco on October 3
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is opening the exhibition “RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me,” curated by RM — Kim Namjoon, leader of the global group BTS — together with the museum’s curators América Castillo and Kim Hyoeun. The exhibition opens to the public on October 3, 2026, and will run until February 7, 2027, while the press preview was held on September 29 (local time) at the museum, as Yonhap reports.
In total, around 180 works are on display: about 140 from RM’s personal collection and more than 40 from SFMOMA’s holdings. The selection centers on modern and contemporary Korean artists — among them Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rae-hyun, Chang Ucchin, Kwon Ok-yeon, Kim Yun-shin and Do Sang-bong — while the museum’s collection contributes names such as Kim Whanki, Nam June Paik, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Yves Klein and Donald Judd. The museum itself describes the exhibition as one of the most complete presentations of modern and contemporary Korean art ever seen in the United States, according to SFMOMA’s official website.
RM’s passion for collecting art began around eight years ago, while the proposal for this project came to him from SFMOMA two years ago — at the time when he was serving in the military. This is the first museum exhibition devoted to his personal collection and, at the same time, SFMOMA’s first collaboration with a K-pop artist, SBS Star writes.
RM himself wrote the exhibition texts in Korean and in English, recorded the bilingual audio guide in his own voice and personally selected the music that will be heard in the gallery, allkpop reports.
