Cakolli: It would be an insult if tomorrow’s session ended in partisan clashes over The Hague

Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) researcher Eugen Cakolli has called on parliamentary parties to reach a common institutional position on the verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, as Telegrafi reports.

Cakolli said it would be unacceptable for tomorrow’s session of the Kosovo Assembly to turn into clashes between parties or into a parade of competing declarations on the verdict.

“It would be unacceptable for tomorrow’s session of the Kosovo Assembly to end in partisan clashes or competing declarations about the Hague verdict, which the parties themselves are describing as a blow to the KLA and to Kosovo,” Cakolli wrote.

According to him, after a delay of nearly two weeks, parliamentary parties should aim for an institutional stance backed by the broadest possible political consensus.

“The minimum asked of parliamentary parties is to come out with an institutional stance enjoying the broadest possible political consensus,” he said.

Cakolli also recalled the protests held in Kosovo and in countries around the world, saying political clashes in the Assembly would be an insult to the citizens who protested in support of the KLA’s war.

“After the protests and calls of thousands of citizens in Kosovo and around the world in defense of the liberation war, it would be an insult to them for deputies to spend tomorrow clashing and disagreeing with one another, turning even this issue into a continuation of their usual clashes,” Cakolli wrote.

Finally, he posed a question to the political parties should they fail to unite on this issue.

“If political parties cannot unite even on this issue, then for what exactly are they prepared to put the country’s interest ahead of party interest?” Cakolli concluded.
