Çitaku raises concern over the Special Court’s interpretation of the KLA war
PDK Secretary General Vlora Çitaku has reacted to developments in the case of former KLA leaders convicted by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague. In a post, Çitaku said a particular paragraph in the case reasoning should be read with “great attention,” as, in her view, it raises questions about how the KLA war and the war for Kosovo’s independence could be interpreted. “Then tell me that the very purpose of the KLA war is not being judged here,” Çitaku wrote.
She warned that such interpretations could set a precedent for how Kosovo’s war will be written about and interpreted in the future. Çitaku stressed that the debate should not be limited to the four former KLA leaders — Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi. “Do not let intolerance toward four names blind you. Because this issue goes beyond Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi,” she wrote.
According to Çitaku, if the war against those who opposed Kosovo’s independence is treated as part of a “criminal enterprise,” the issue goes beyond individual responsibility and touches on how the war for Kosovo’s independence is characterized. “And this is much bigger than four names. Read it. Coldly. Without political sympathy. Without political antipathy. Then we talk about the consequences,” Çitaku concluded, as Telegrafi reports.
