Constitutional Court threw out the request of 44 opposition MPs over his election, the Ombudsman reacts

People’s Advocate Endri Shabani has reacted after the Constitutional Court rejected the request of 44 Democratic Party MPs, who challenged the procedure followed by parliament in electing him to the post.

In a reaction, Shabani said he respects the Constitutional Court’s decision, which, according to him, verified the procedure followed by parliament and found it in line with the Constitution.

“The People’s Advocate respects the decision of the Constitutional Court, which, at the request of a group of MPs, verified the procedure followed by parliament for electing the head of the institution and found it to be in line with the Constitution,” Shabani writes.

He stresses that during the case’s review, the institution he leads maintained impartiality toward the parties, taking no position on the merits of the case.

“In this case, the People’s Advocate maintained impartiality toward the claimants and parliament by taking no position on the merits and entrusting the assessment entirely to the Court, to which the final interpretation of the Constitution belongs,” he says.

According to Shabani, the Constitutional Court’s decision answers the questions raised about the procedure of his election.

“Today’s decision answers every question about the election procedure,” writes the People’s Advocate.

At the end of his reaction, Shabani stresses that the institution will continue its work for the protection of human rights.

“The People’s Advocate continues its work for the protection of human rights,” he concludes.
