Cowboys’ Jerry Jones: Giants Were Stronger Than We Thought in the Opener

Jerry Jones admitted that the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss came in part against an opponent who exceeded expectations. He said his team failed to play at the required level and that the Giants showed a stronger performance than initially assessed.

As NFL reports, Jaxson Dart finished the game with 230 yards and three touchdowns on 23-of-29 passing, while Cam Skattebo contributed powerfully in the running game. Together they produced 135 rushing yards, with Skattebo scoring one of the touchdowns.

New York never had to play from behind during the entire game, dominated possession for over 13 minutes, and shredded Dallas’s coverages at decisive moments, while the team was expected to improve under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

Jones noted that changes in staff and tactical schemes have left the team in a learning phase and that it must accelerate the process before the next matchup against Washington, a decisive duel for position in the NFC East. He expressed confidence that the players are working hard and that performance will improve in the home game, and, according to NFL, the team’s owner is convinced the squad will come back stronger for the next round.
