Bill for an Albania with 46 municipalities, Bylykbashi: No veteran MP among the proponents

The bill proposed by the Socialist Party for Albania’s new territorial division, with 46 municipalities, has been opposed by Democratic Party MPs in the Laws Committee.

During the discussions, DP MP Oerd Bylykbashi described the proposal as a violation of the Constitution and of citizens’ interests. According to him, the way the reform was drafted and the procedures followed raise questions over the legitimacy of the process.

“Territorial Reform, according to the SP’s proposal, is a violation of the Constitution and of citizens’ interests”, Bylykbashi declared during the Laws Committee meeting.

The bill proposed by the majority provides for the country’s territory to be reorganised into 46 municipalities, while the list of proponents includes:

Ardit Bido

Klevis Jahaj

Agron Malaj

Adi Qose

Ermal Elezi

During the discussion in the Laws Committee, Bylykbashi also pointed to the composition of the list of proponents, declaring that “there is no veteran MP” among them.
