Deadline for electoral lists in Serbia expires: RIK proclaims 16 lists for the October 25 elections
At midnight the deadline officially expired for submitting electoral lists for the early parliamentary elections in Serbia, to be held on 25 October, as Nova.rs reports. The Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) has so far proclaimed 17 electoral lists, one of which has meanwhile been withdrawn, bringing the number of proclaimed lists to 16.
According to the same report, of the proclaimed lists, seven have the status of national minority electoral lists. The proclaimed list is headed by “Aleksandar Vučić – Ujedinjena Srbija”, followed by “Ivica Dačić – Faktor stabilnosti”, “Studentska lista – Studenti pobeđuju”, “Rasim Ljajić – Ljudski SDP/CDP”, “Savez vojvođanskih Mađara” and “Usame Zukorlić – Pokret za ujedinjenje”, as well as the opposition coalitions “Evropska Srbija” and “Autentična desnica”, Nova.rs reports.
The only withdrawn list, according to RIK, is “Izbor naroda – Miroslav Miki Aleksić – Miloš Parandilović – Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta”, proclaimed on 18 September with ordinal number 9. The notice of withdrawal was submitted to RIK on 22 September, while on 24 September the commission approved the decision confirming the withdrawal of the list.
With the expiry of the deadline, the election campaign enters its final phase: the summary electoral list must be published by 9 October at the latest. The 25 October elections, called after Aleksandar Vučić’s resignation as president, are considered the most important political test in Serbia after almost two years of student protests.
